The Day I Learned to Levitate, by Ron Wood
At one of my first yoga classes, elsewhere, years ago I learned I could do things I did not believe I could do. It was interesting, but really very profound.
Our instructor began with a slow gentle warm up.
Sun Salutation A:
Breathe in.
Arms up, stretch, gently look up, pause breath & movement.
Breathe out.
Fold down, pause breath & movement.
Breathe in.
Up to finger tips, flat back.
Breathe out.
Fold down, relax neck.
Breathe in.
Jump or step back to Plank.
Breathe out.
Down to Chaturanga.
Roll over to tops of feet for Up Dog.
Back on toes & move to Down Dog.
3 deep breaths, pause between.
Arms up, stretch, gently look up, join palms, arms to ears.
Breathe out.
Repeat Sun Salutation A 3-5 times.
Sun salutation B:
Start in Chair.
Replace Plank with Warrior 1.
Don’t pause in Down Dog.
Repeat Sun Salutation B 3-5 times.
Sit on floor, legs outstretched, lean forward gently. Breathe.
Come up & move gently into Full Lotus.
Arms straight down at sides, palms flat, very close to pelvis.
Lock first Bandha, breathe. Repeat, keep locked.
While doing that, add the second Bandha. Arms engaged.
Breathe.
Move up and lock the third Bandha.
And that’s when it happened; it was so cool & took me completely by surprise:
I levitated. My butt rose up off the ground as my core pulled up & together. I gave no thought or effort to my arms or upper body to exert any effort to lift myself.
How cool is that? I did not think I could do that.
The day I learned to levitate.
As to why nude yoga: That’s the I always do my yoga. At home, at the beach, in the woods hiking. Why not with a group of like-minded gents. The energy is great & welcoming.
